Tea Ceremony in Kendal & the Lake District
A guided tea experience for rest, presence and gentle connection
Tea can be much more than a drink.
When we give it time and attention, the simple act of preparing and sharing tea can create a space to slow down, settle the mind and reconnect with ourselves and each other.
Our Tea Ceremonies are inspired by Chinese tea culture, mindful living and our own journey with tea, meditation and movement. They are relaxed and accessible — you don’t need any previous knowledge of tea or meditation.
Come alone, share the experience with someone close to you, or bring tea into a group, retreat or special gathering.
Private, couples and small-group Tea Ceremonies are available in Kendal and across the Lake District.

About Tea Ceremony
Simple. Present. Unhurried.
For centuries, people have gathered around tea — for ceremony, conversation, contemplation or simply to spend time together.
In our increasingly busy lives, tea gives us a reason to stop.
During a Tea Ceremony, we intentionally slow things down. We notice the warmth of the cup, the fragrance of the leaves, the changing flavour of each infusion and the people sharing the space with us.
There is no need to achieve anything.
We simply make tea, drink tea and give ourselves time to be present.
This is not an afternoon tea or a formal tea-tasting event. It is a guided experience centred around tea, presence and connection.
What to expect
Every ceremony is a little different and can be shaped around the people, place and intention of the gathering.
We begin by arriving and settling into the space. The tea is then prepared slowly and shared over several infusions, giving you time to notice how its aroma, flavour and character change.
Depending on the occasion, we may also include elements such as:
- Intension setting
- breath awareness and grounding
- Qigong or gentle mindful movement
- guided meditation
- gratitude practice
- quiet reflection or conversation
These are invitations rather than requirements.
At the centre of the experience remains something very simple:
Tea. Presence. Connection.
Simplicity at the centre
Tea Ceremony doesn’t need to be complicated.
Beautiful teaware, old traditions and knowledge about tea can enrich the experience, but they are not what makes a ceremony meaningful.
The most important ingredients are attention, time and presence.
This simplicity is also something you can take home with you. You don’t need a special room or expensive equipment to create a small tea ritual in everyday life.
Sometimes all we need is a cup of tea — and the willingness to actually be there while we drink it.
The tea
Pu-erh, Chinese tea & herbal infusions
Chinese tea culture has been an important influence on our relationship with tea, particularly the mindful preparation of tea through multiple infusions.
We especially enjoy working with Pu-erh, a tea traditionally produced in Yunnan, China. Its rich and earthy character develops beautifully from one infusion to the next, making it particularly suited to slow tea drinking.
Our approach is influenced by Gong Fu tea preparation and Chinese tea culture, without trying to reproduce one rigid or formal tradition.
The purpose isn’t to perform tea perfectly.
It is to experience it fully.
Prefer caffeine-free?
Tea Ceremony doesn’t have to mean caffeine.
We can also work with carefully selected herbs and our own herbal tea blends. A caffeine-free ceremony can be especially suitable for evening gatherings or simply for anyone who prefers herbal infusions.
You are welcome to tell us your preference when booking.
Optional elements (by request)
Tea can stand beautifully on its own.
At the same time, simple practices can sometimes help us arrive more fully and prepare the body and mind for stillness.
Depending on the ceremony, we may weave in:
Qigong · mindful movement · breathwork · guided meditation · gratitude practice · quiet reflection
Nothing is compulsory, and we don’t try to fit every element into every ceremony.
The experience is shaped around the people who are actually sitting around the tea table.

Inspired by Chinese Tea Culture
Chinese tea culture has deeply influenced the way we prepare and share tea.
The Gong Fu approach of preparing relatively small amounts of tea over a series of short infusions encourages attention. Instead of making one large cup and moving on, we stay with the tea and experience how it changes.
This is particularly beautiful with Pu-erh and other high-quality loose-leaf teas.
Our ceremonies draw inspiration from this culture while remaining personal, simple and accessible.
We respect the traditions that have shaped our practice without trying to present what we do as a strict reconstruction of one particular traditional ceremony.
Tea traditions can show us the way.
But ultimately, the ceremony happens here and now, between the people sharing the tea.
Tea Ceremony in Nature
Tea tastes different under an open sky.
Some of our most memorable tea experiences happen outdoors.
A woodland, lakeshore, garden or quiet place in the hills naturally changes the way we experience something as familiar as drinking tea.
We begin to notice more:
the wind through the trees, the movement of water, birdsong, changing light, the warmth of the cup between our hands.
Living in the Lake District gives us wonderful opportunities to take Tea Ceremony beyond four walls.
Weather and location permitting, Tea in Nature experiences can be arranged around Kendal and the Lake District, privately or as part of a group or retreat.
This ceremony is sometimes held in the Serpentine Woods in Kendal, just a 15-minute walk from the therapy space, though it can be arranged in other locations if conditions allow. Whether experienced individually, with a partner, or in a small group, the tea ceremony in nature provides a sanctuary of stillness, reflection, and harmony with the elements.
The fusion of nature therapy and tea ritual magnifies their individual benefits. The grounding presence of trees calms the nervous system, reduces stress, and enhances overall well-being, while the mindful preparation and drinking of tea cultivate focus, clarity, and inner peace. Together, they create a space of deep relaxation, reflection, and renewal, making this ceremony a powerful yet simple way to restore harmony within and around us.
